Fun With the Brayer!

Posted on

Some time ago, I bought a Brayer.  I tore it out of its package and thought to myself….”hmmmmm, where do I start?”.  It sat on my desk for a while…it moved around…..and then eventually it moved into a drawer.  Not until a few weeks ago did I stop before closing my drawer, and pick it up.  I set it on my desk and decided it was time to work with it.  I’m not sure why I was so hesitant.  I think it was mostly because I’d never worked with one.  So I pulled out some paper and decided to give it a go.  Here’s one of the projects I did using the Brayer.

The thing that I love the most about the Brayer is the Gradient effects you can create.  They can look so pretty as a backdrop or you can turn it into a feature point.  Above, I used two of the new “In-Colours” – Blackberry Bliss and Hello Honey.  (Full list of supplies at bottom).

Once I had the gradient thing figured out (I won’t say Mastered ’cause I sure haven’t mastered it yet!), I thought, why not try something with Blues – which then became, “let’s do a night scene”!!!

Above is the In progress shot.  You can see where the Brayer rolled over some uneven areas on my mat but it actually made me think of Northern lights.  I masked out the moon using the 1 3/8″ circle punch and then stamped a set of trees from the set “Lovely As A Tree” in Black.

Once the trees were stamped on, I dabbed the moon with some Crumb Cake colouring and added the “stars” using the Dazzling Details.  Lastly, I embossed the sentiment “Thinking of You” from the Sassy Salutations Stamp set in Silver.  This card face was then mounted on a piece of Lost Lagoon Card stock as the mat border and then on to Island Indigo card stock.

There’s so much more you could do with this scene but I opted to keep it simple.  Thinking I might very well try a sunset version of this!!  😉

Thanks for stopping by!  Feel free to drop a comment and let me know what you think!

Check back soon!

For the above Cards, here’s the list of supplies used:

**The Directional Stamp at the bottom is from the “Glittered Greetings” Paper Pumpkin Kit and the Arrow Paper clip at the top is now retired.  😦

***The Sentiment and Splatter Stamps came from the “Hey There” Paper Pumpkin Kit – Item #132599

**I used “Not Quite Navy” Ink however that one is now retired.  I’ve included “Night Of Navy” below as I feel this would work just as well.

Spring Has Sprung…Part 1

With the Spring Catalogue from Stampin’ Up! in full force, I’ve had a chance to play with one of their awesome bundles.  It’s a bundle called “Hearts A Flutter”.  Bundle includes not just the stamps but the Framelits as well.  Here is one of the creations I tackled using this particular bundle.  As I look at this now, I think I could use a little more bling!  What do you think?

For this particular card, I used the following:

*Very Vanilla Card Stock
*Rich Razzleberry Card Stock
*Designer Series Paper – Flirtatious
*Hearts A Flutter Stamp Set
*Vintage Verses Stamp Set – Not Yet Released!
*Rich Razzleberry Ink Pad
*Calypso Coral Ink Pad
*Perfect Polka Embossing Folder
*Hearts A Flutter Framelits

Heat Tool Action!

I am officially hooked on the heat tool!  I wanted to create a little note card for a friend of mine so I thought, hey, why not have some fun with embossing?!  Plus, who can say no to glitter?!  Again, something simple but sweet!  I’m also usually pretty terrible at creating Flagged edges on anything but have to say, this one turned out okay!!

*Basic Baby Blue Card Stock
*Whisper White Card Stock
*Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set
*Joyous Celebrations Stamp Set
*Rich Razzleberry Ink Pad
*Versa Mark Ink Pad
*Silver Embossing Powder
*2″ x 1 3/8″ Oval Punch
*Stampin’ Up! Embossing Heat Tool
*Dark Purple Ribbon
*Decorative Swirly Stamp (source unknown)

*As always, anything else you think you’d like to add to it!

It’s hard to believe Christmas is 2 weeks away!  Where on earth has the time gone?  Hopefully, unlike me, you’re all set for the Holidays!  I tell myself every year that I’ll start early but for whatever reason, it never happens.  (Note to 2013 self…..START EARLY-seriously!!!).

I also hope if you’ve created your own Christmas cards this year that you’ve managed to get them done and at least prepped and ready for mailing at this stage!  We’re just about finished ours.  For those of you that know my husband and  I, we like to put a lot of creative thought into what we send out.  My husband, being an illustrator, always does a great job and it’s always fun seeing him bring our ideas to life!  Once it’s complete, I’ll be sure to post it here so you can share in the fun as well!  Stay tuned!!
