Fun With the Brayer!

Posted on

Some time ago, I bought a Brayer.  I tore it out of its package and thought to myself….”hmmmmm, where do I start?”.  It sat on my desk for a while…it moved around…..and then eventually it moved into a drawer.  Not until a few weeks ago did I stop before closing my drawer, and pick it up.  I set it on my desk and decided it was time to work with it.  I’m not sure why I was so hesitant.  I think it was mostly because I’d never worked with one.  So I pulled out some paper and decided to give it a go.  Here’s one of the projects I did using the Brayer.

The thing that I love the most about the Brayer is the Gradient effects you can create.  They can look so pretty as a backdrop or you can turn it into a feature point.  Above, I used two of the new “In-Colours” – Blackberry Bliss and Hello Honey.  (Full list of supplies at bottom).

Once I had the gradient thing figured out (I won’t say Mastered ’cause I sure haven’t mastered it yet!), I thought, why not try something with Blues – which then became, “let’s do a night scene”!!!

Above is the In progress shot.  You can see where the Brayer rolled over some uneven areas on my mat but it actually made me think of Northern lights.  I masked out the moon using the 1 3/8″ circle punch and then stamped a set of trees from the set “Lovely As A Tree” in Black.

Once the trees were stamped on, I dabbed the moon with some Crumb Cake colouring and added the “stars” using the Dazzling Details.  Lastly, I embossed the sentiment “Thinking of You” from the Sassy Salutations Stamp set in Silver.  This card face was then mounted on a piece of Lost Lagoon Card stock as the mat border and then on to Island Indigo card stock.

There’s so much more you could do with this scene but I opted to keep it simple.  Thinking I might very well try a sunset version of this!!  😉

Thanks for stopping by!  Feel free to drop a comment and let me know what you think!

Check back soon!

For the above Cards, here’s the list of supplies used:

**The Directional Stamp at the bottom is from the “Glittered Greetings” Paper Pumpkin Kit and the Arrow Paper clip at the top is now retired.  😦

***The Sentiment and Splatter Stamps came from the “Hey There” Paper Pumpkin Kit – Item #132599

**I used “Not Quite Navy” Ink however that one is now retired.  I’ve included “Night Of Navy” below as I feel this would work just as well.

Thank You x 3

Ahoy!  It’s been a while!  Unfortunately, once again, my “full time” routine has gotten the better of me!  Some day, I hope to be able to “play” more during the day!!  Some day.

At any rate, I thought I would post a couple of Thank You cards that I put together a little while back.  I was asked to create 3 Thank You cards.  Initially I thought, well, since they’re all going to different people I could do 3 of the same – but let’s be honest…..Why would I do that?!! ha ha!!  Especially when I can create 3 unique cards all equally special for those receiving them.

That said, here they are:

PAPER :  Calypso Coral, Very Vanilla, Lucky Limeade

STAMPS:  Blooming with Kindness

INK:  Calypso Coral

TOOLS:  Big Shot – Floral Frames Framelits, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch, Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder (Retired), Scallop Edge Border Punch

ACCESSORIES:  Basic Pearls, Dimensionals

PAPER :  Night of Navy, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake

STAMPS:  Blooming with Kindess

INK:  Bashful Blue (Retired), Not Quite Navy (Retired)

Just a quick post tonight……

I have wanted to try using the shaker frames from SU!, so I found a piece of inspiration and did this card for my Nephew’s Birthday!!

And here’s a little bit of a closer view of the actual “window” frame that i created.

Birthday_BlastOff_CUThere was a lot of “fussy-cutting” involved here and I realized very quickly that I would never have made a great Dr.  In a couple of spots I think you can actually see the “shake” in my hand! ha!

In order to give the moon a bit of a feel of texture, I just used a piece of kleenex and some “crumb cake” ink to make splotches representing moon surface!  It was a fun card to make and definitely tested the patience!  😉

So here’s what I used to make the above:

PAPER :  Night of Navy, Very Vanilla, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie

STAMPS:  Blast Off

INK:  Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Chocolate Chip, Rich Razzleberry, Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie

TOOLS:  Big Shot – Chevron Embossing Folder

ACCESSORIES:  Dimensionals, Shaker Frame, Window Sheet, Googly Eyes, Dazzling Details, Dazzling Details Silver Sparkle

So it’s been a little while since my last post – but that’s not to say I haven’t been busy!  I have a few things to share with this post so hope you’ll stick around!  With the new Stampin’ Up! catalogue fast approaching, there has already been a refresh in the colour palettes!  You should know that some colours are retiring and older ones are coming back!  Below is the official refresh colour list.  Not only will this apply to inks but it applies to all things “colour” – ie. ribbon, buttons, brads, etc.  If you own any of the retiring colours, and love them, NOW is the time to stock up on any paper, ink refills, ribbon etc that you might need to hold you over!!  Ink refills are already flying out the door so don’t wait!!

Since it’s been a while, I thought I’d post a couple of cards I made for Easter!  So here’s some of what I’ve been up to:

A super simple card and I once again popped my butterfly up as in the previous Easter Card posted on my blog.  Here’s what I used to create this card:

PAPER :  Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, DSP – “Flirtatious”

STAMPS:  Teeny Tiny Wishes, Papillon Potpourri

INK:  Wisteria Wonder, Lucky Limeade

TOOLS:  Big Shot – Chevron Embossing Folder, Elegant Butterfly Punch

ACCESSORIES:  Basic Rhinestones

I made two more cards but kept them the same – switching only the colour themes.

Again, fairly simple.  While not necessary, it’s amazing what a little embossing can do!  Here’s what I used to create these cards:

PAPER :  Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Whisper White

STAMPS:  Teeny Tiny Wishes, Daydream Medallions

INK:  Lucky Limeade, Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo, Calypso Coral, Rich Razzleberry

TOOLS:  Big Shot – Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder, Floral Frames Framelits

ACCESSORIES:  Basic Rhinestones, Dimensionals

For the avid crafters, if you’ve been to the Stampin’ Up! site lately, you’ve likely noticed that they had FREE SHIPPING over the weekend.  For those who didn’t hear the news, you still have until 11:59pm tonight!!  If you need to stock up on anything (ie. retiring colour supplies!!!) and want to avoid shipping fees, hop on over to my Online Store before the Free shipping ends!

Phew, I think that’s it for now!  I’ve done a couple of cool little projects that I can’t wait to share but until the “receivers” receive, I won’t be posting those just yet.  But very soon!

Happy Crafting!

I made this card for a Wedding and thought I would “spice it up” just a wee bit.  I’m a fan of bright colours and thought, why not?  This was also my first attempt at making a paper rosette (or lolly as some know it).  I’ll be honest, it was a little finicky but once I got the sucker (pun intended!) pinned down, I was good to go!  🙂  I love how they look especially with something fixed in the  middle such as a decorative brad as I’ve used here.  The best part is, once you get good at it, you can have fun with all kinds of sizes!

PAPER :  Certainly Celery, Whisper White, DSP – “Sycamore Street” (SAB)

STAMPS:  Sassy Salutations

INK:  Versa Mark Pad

TOOLS:  Big Shot – Vine Street Embossing Folder (SAB), Simply Scored, Heat Tool – Silver Embossing Powder

ACCESSORIES:  Basic Rhinestones, Tangerine Tango 1/4″ Ribbon, Calypso Coral Brad

My task last week was to generate two cards for upcoming weddings.  I had already been working with this specific paper for another card so I thought I’d make the most of it and turn it around on a wedding card!  I wanted to do some embossing so took full advantage of this great Heart stamp out of the “You Are Loved” set and embossed it using Silver powder.  What do you think?Wedding1

PAPER :  Pumpkin Pie, Very Vanilla, DSP – “Everyday Enchantment”

STAMPS:  Teeny Tiny Wishes, You Are Loved

INK:  Pumpkin Pie

TOOLS:  Heat Tool – Silver Embossing Powder
